18th Century Tibetan Trunk Blue

From the at least the late 17th century through to the 19th century a definite style of ornament can be observed on the trunks from this period, this can be called the “classic period” for these type of trunks because of the splendor of design found on some. They are invariably finished with ironwork, fitting them down the sides, across top and bottom, and with hinges behind and a latch in front. The corners of the trunk are etched steel typically with flower medallions joined together in a trellis pattern.
This is a wonderful medium sized trunk from the late 17th to late 18th century with painted blue leather inserts on the face and sides. Made from wood, various leathers, and steel and is in great condition for its age is also a true testament to the wonderful craftsmanship and meticulous attention to detail of Tibetan people. With perfectly woven form, function, and beauty this trunk is made for both use and for appreciation in the household.
