Artist: Hiroshige (1797 – 1858)
Circa: 1880’s
Image size: 8 3/4″ x 13 1/4″ + margins
Condition: Excellent color and detail. Nice full sheet, trimmed slightly along right edge. Paper remnants on the reverse from previous backing. One hole along top edge, mostly in margin, could easily be repaired. Some light soiling and offsetting. Some thinning of paper in upper half. Good overall.
Description: This print is from a Meiji era release made from the original blocks in the 1880’s. Publishers used some of the brighter and more vibrant imported inks that were in vogue in Meiji era Japan, giving this print a brighter appearance. A lovely print and an interesting historical piece from Meiji, Japan. Hiroshige’s wonderful Ryogoku fireworks is one of the most sought after prints of the series. This reprint is an exceptionally rare find.
