Condition: Good color and detail. Gauffrage on parts of the Kimono. Some small worm holes in subject, some repaired, a few holes remain. Some transference of pink ink in the center. Slight staining on he left edge and slight toning. This print is from the second printing as identified by the two-color cartouche. Difficult to find.

Description: The Spirit of the Komachi Cherry Tree is the eighth published print from the series New Forms of Thirty-six Ghosts. The legend holds that the evil Lord Kuronushi had a plan to overthrow the Emperor. In order to ensure the success of his plan, he deceived the Emporer by appearing in the form of the enchanting beauty Kurozome and seduced him, convincing him to share his plan with her. After exposing his intentions, the beauty disappeared and her beautiful purple kimono fades into the atmosphere below her waist.
